portfolio-chiptune

[ pixel art | chiptunes | programming ]

there are a few different types of chiptune that i tend to make:

[PSEUDO-GB]

this is the style that im most comfortable with.
these are songs that i write in famitracker, using the FDS expansion chip
in a way that mimics the GB's wave channel. the biggest difference between this and
[TRUE-GB] is the way that the noise channel sounds.
ive been using famitracker since 2013, so im very used to its interface and
find it difficult to switch to other music programs......

world_skate-5

i wrote this for a pokémon fangame that i was working on and still might end up going back to.
its the theme for riding around on a skateboard

b_btl_b_i-know-you

a boss theme.
i have written. so many boss themes.
but i never get tired of doing it. boss themes are by far my favorite songs to make

pkmncenter-6

just a lil cover of the pokémon center theme. not much special about it

[TRUE-GB]

music made on or for an actual GameBoy, using LSDJ, or, more recently, hUGEtracker.
LSDJ's interface can be a lil bit cumbersome to use, thanks to it running
on an actual GameBoy and therefore only having access to 8 buttons.
i usually only use LSDJ if im feeling really particular about hardware accuracy,
or if i want to use its fancy wave channel synth effects.
hUGEtracker is probably what i'll use if the song is to be imported into an actual GameBoy game.
headphones are recommended for these songs, as some utilize hard-panning

PWETTY

an area theme for a forest. may or may not be heavily inspired by the theme for
eterna forest from pokémon dppt

ENCOUNTER

standard battle theme for the same project as the song above.
i actually composed this song originally back in 2016 (i wouldve been 13 years old at the time)
its become my go-to song to make a version of whenever im trying out a new tracker,
this was the result of doing so in LSDJ
(if you wanna hear the original, its "pent.ftm" in data/audio/old_ftm/Music/)

MAYBE

an unfinished boss theme.
this was also originally composed back in 2016 (i wouldve been 14 years old at the time)
(the original is "battlemaybe.ftm" in the same folder as the song above)

[FC]

using famitracker for its intended purpose.
im personally a big fan of the GB's wave channel, so i tend to prefer [PSEUDO-GB] and [TRUE-GB]
over this style. that said, the NES's sample-playing capabilities do offer some unique
opportunities (see: the megalavegala cover)

sunsoftvania-6b

a cover of megalavegala. not much to say about it

[F§▀¥ IT]

dont worry about technical limitations of any known game console,
just put the beeps and boops down and make a song

[i dont actually have any examples of this atm,, but i figured id present it as an option]

im not entirely confident in my abilities as a composer, but i do have a lot of experience
with making arrangements. it makes my job almost trivial if you can give me something, anything,
as a "seed". tho maybe this is just me trying to push the whole scary experience of starting
with a blank slate off to you.....

here are a few examples of chiptunes ive made from "seeds".
these songs were written originally by
Aerma

your seeds need not be as complex as the ones shown here, even
a simple fragment of melody will suffice.

"Mystic Town"

seed, sent to me by Aerma:

result:

"Growth Town"

seed, sent to me by Aerma:

result:

"Sparkling Cavern"

seed, sent to me by Aerma:

result:

"Miranda's Theme"

somehow aerma and i both lost the original seed file for this one so i dont have anything to put here....
just imagine the result played on piano and without the bass trust me i stuck pretty close to the seed for this one's regular result.
i wanted to put this one here even if i dont have the seed so that i can show off the cool battle theme i made with the same seed.

result:

bonus battle theme:

that said, i can and have written songs from scratch, it just takes me a little bit longer.
i just want to present this "seed" thing as an option for you if youre looking to commission me for music
